Roy began writing plays in 1990 and is now arguably one of the country’s leading dramatists. In 2000 he was the joint-winner of The George Devine Award and in 2001 he was awarded the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright. He was awarded the OBE for Services to Drama in the 2008 Birthday Honours List and was made a fellow of The Royal Society of Literature in 2018. We are thrilled to welcome Sir Alan Ayckbourn as a patron of Rocketlines.
Alan is an Olivier and Tony Award winning playwright. He lives in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, and has written 90 full-length plays, many of which have been produced in London's West End and New York as well as around the world.
As an acclaimed director, he has worked extensively in the West End and at the National Theatre. He was the Artistic Director of the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, from 1972 to 2009, where the majority of his work has and continues to be launched.
Alan is committed to nurturing new talent and we are so glad to welcome him as one of our patrons.
